At 39 years of age, Justin Verlander is still cooking with gas.
Over the weekend, Verlander struck out nine Seattle Mariners on his way to his league-leading 13th victory. During the start, he reached 99 MPH on the radar gun, becoming just the second pitcher at his age to reach that speed in the pitch-tracking era. All told, it’s been nothing but a return to form for Verlander, who missed all but one start over the last two seasons recovering from Tommy John surgery. But now he’s back firing on all cylinders, ready to do whatever it is that he can to get the defending American League Champion Houston Astros back into the World Series come October.
Which brings us to today’s quiz of the day. Verlander won 21 games in his last full season in the Show, and he needs just seven more wins in the second half of this year to reach 20 as well. So with that in mind, can you name the last 20-game winner for each MLB franchise?
